I've said this before -- the "shortage", if it existed at all, was created by retailers not buying the lenses from Pentax. Pentax Canada did not only not sell any 50mm lenses for nearly five years but also did not have a single INQUIRY about buying them. As I understand it, they are sensibly not going to restock them from Japan when and if they sell their remaining inventory. I mean, I bought a new F (not FA) 50mm f1.4 from them! How long had that thing been in their warehouse?
