What I'm saying is this: No product can be produced without changes for 16 years. Even thoug the optical formula remains unchanged, company policies concerning acceptable tolerances etc., methods of production, tools, parts etc. will no doubt change over a period of 16 years of production (1989-2004). Surely the people involved in the production changes over 16 years. Consider that this period of time was an important part of the industrial revolution - when CAD/CAM was implemented all over the modern world. Pepple: Who did you work with 16 years ago? Are the same people still there? Are their values, standards, methods of management etc.still the same?
To me an F lens and an FA lens represents two different generations. Regardless of the optical formula, everything else must have changed, I'm sure. To me it's not a big surprise, that the two lenses may produce different results in tests.
