On a DSLR it's an excellent portrait lens.
I's still VERY much cheaper than a 1.8 77mm or a A* or FA 1.4 85mm.
The affordable Pentax DSLR's made this standard AF lens very attractive for
portrait work, I believe.
I didn't have one in my PZ-1 - MZ-S days ... :-)

Have we discussed the price of the FA-50/1.4 before? I sort of want one,
but have found that they tend to be rather expensive - although I think
someone said recently here that they are cheap. I mean, the list price
for a new one isn't really that high, but it seems like used items tend
to go for almost the same amount on that-place-whose-name-ends-with-ay.

Why is that? Is it because of the rumour that this lens has been
discontinued? Or maybe it *has* been discontinued (well, I'm sure that's
something that has been discussed earlier), but it's still on my local
distributor's price list, and B&H claim to have it in stock...
