I haven't tried this with DS, but I had a CF card that I used with
several point-n-shoots - across the brand: Kodak and Canon.
That was not causing any problem.
The photos on the camera are written in the brand-specific directory
(aka folder). E.g. for CANON cameras that I've seen it is
/DCIM and then it contains separate subdirectory for each 100 images
named like 115CANON (where last two digits correspond to the sequential
number of the 100, i.e. in this case - images 1501-1600, I might be
off by one).

Also, different brands are using different file naming convention,
so it unlikely that one will images from another.
So, I wouldn't expect any problems from a _modern_ camera
(i.e. at least 3-4 years old model).
However, I would test first.

When the card was used in different cameras of the same brend,
the camera was even able to preview the images from the previous
camera, except for some problem when the previous camera had larger
size images then this one could handle.

Also, keep in mind if you tell one camera "delete all images",
it might or might not delete the images from the other camera.
"Format card", - does delete everything.
