John, iI do use NiMH and I also sometimes let my D on the shelf for a couple weeks. I do not experience many problems except dead batteries 'cos I didn't charge 'em.
I agree the use of the grip does introduce its own set of problem however. I do not get problems enough to switch to CRV3.
