I'm not arguing with you, Rob, that they should be available new. I'm

If I had the cash, there is not one desirable Pentax lens that I could
not
have bought in the past year in excellent condition at lower than new
prices.
So:
1. yes, they ought to be available new,
2. but it doesn't matter; they're available second-hand (and cheaper).
I suspect that our definitions of cheap and available differ somewhat.
Last Dec an A*200/4 sold on eBay for $1,343.43
Last June two FA80-200/2.8 sold on eBay for $1,563.35 and $1,149.99
Last June an FA*200/4 sold on eBay for $1,132.00
Last May an A*200/4 sold on eBay for $1,125.00
Last April an FA*200/4 sold on eBay for $1,225.92
Last April an A*200/4 sold on eBay for $1,187.29
Last March an FA80-200/2.8 sold on eBay for $1,081.35
Cheap to some but hardly common given the volume of Pentax gear that
filters
though eBay.
Now you're putting words into my mouth, Rob. I never said "cheap", I said
"cheaper" [than new], and as for "available", I said that over a year
every desirable lens could have been bought. Obviously that's not nearly
as good as being able to buy off the shelf, but it does mean that those
who seek can find.
