I think a 200/2.8 is pretty exotic for the average slr buyer. I also
believe that the *stD appeal to two kinds of buyers; 1) entry level
users who buy kit lenses. 2) Pentax users that already own the
lenses they want. They only use the *istD because something better
isn't available. I believe there are very few who buys exotic Pentax
glass these days.
I'll agree with you on the above with the caveat of using the word
"mostly".
