Only for convenience when you don't want to take the time to download. I've been in the situation where I had filled both 1GB cards and then was stuck downloading one before I could shoot more. It was a busy day, sure I should have been more disciplined, but it can happen. With the 4GB microdrive and 2-1GB CF's I haven't had the problem again... yet.

Personally I'd go with 2-4GB cards before a single 8GB. Spreads the risk a little.

I see. Fascinating. It definitely depends on one's style of shooting and on particular occasion. Assuming it takes order of 5 mins to download 1 GB card, I'd say one has to be quite trigger happy (or is it trigger nirvana) to be able to shoot 75 RAW frames... Wait, I think it is impossible to shoot 75 RAW frames in even 10 mins - no Pentax DSLR can do that ;-).

Julia corrected me that you couldn't take care of the first card when it got filled ;-). Usually she's right.
