Yep, this has confused me some times, too (with film AF bodies.) But really, this is one of the nicer features of the (Pentax) AF system. With a little practice, you can use this features to "autofocus" manual lenses quite efficiently. You just keep the shutter depressed while turning the focus ring (but not to fast, I guess, at it might lead to a blurred picture), or alternatively moving the whole camera, and the shutter is actually released exactly at the time the subject comes into focus...

Actually, I take back all I said earlier about the location of the AF motor. The truth is, I don't think there should be a motor at all ;-)
