Cotty, the best I can tell is that Speedvision buys the feed from Bernie and dubs in its own audio from the states. I've never heard Allen or Brundle doing the F1 commentary on speed. David Hobbs, Machete (sp) & an American announcer (don't remember his name at the moment) do an enjoyable running comment. I much prefer listening to the commentary of those that have actually participated as opposed to a hired mouth.
I've heard all the British racing slang that you've mentioned before, but lump for engine is a recent new one for me. BTW, have you ever gone to the Goodwood Festival of Speed?
