I bought my istD late last year, a few short weeks before the DS was announced. In cases like this, I tend to think that waiting for technology is a mistake. Of course, given enough time you can be 99% sure that there will be a Pentax DSLR that will be much better than the current offerings. You can also be 100% sure that you won't have a DSLR until you get one :)
The correct mindset, imho, is to ask yourself "will I be able to take the pictures I want with the cameras that exist today?". That, and "do I care about all the pictures I won't take while I'm waiting for my ideal camera?" I don't know if these comments are helpful, but that's kind of the way I look at these things.
