Brace Fraser's book is the definitive work on this subject. He not only
explains how the RAW converter functions but suggests a workflow as
well. His information goes beyond what Adobe provides, although I think
he's involved with Adobe. The magazine article in PhotoShop User that I
mentioned a while back is a good adjunct, because it takes you through
some conversions from a pro shooters card, showing the before and after
RAW. That article reinforced what I had already come to suspect: A good
RAW image doesn't look good.
