Subject: RE: Understanding exposure? Recommendations?

My thoughts here were to have the lab develop only
and either scan them myself or view the actual negs
on a light box.
If I got real serious I could buy some chemistry
and setup the enlarger again fairly easily.
What think you?

Scanning intruduces it's own set of variables, I would either examine the negatives (mot easy to interpret things sometimes) or set up a simple darkroom and make contact sheets.
The nice thing about contact prints is that you have an excellent comparative visual reference between several frames presented in a meaningful way.
A negative on it's own isn't all that meaningful, since you don't know if it's exposure range will fit into the printing scheme.

If you just want to learn how light works, slide film really is better, I think camera produced Jpegs would also work.
