I've come to the conclusion that for general use on the *istD the A50mm 2.8
is
a good solution. It's cheap(ish), light, at a 75mm equivalent should work
reasonably well
for macro on the smaller format, and also provides a usefull 'fast' lens as
part of a lightweight kit with
two f4 zooms at the short and long end.

If you are seriously into macro there are all sorts of good toys to play
with - just like
a meccano set.  But for carrying around something simple is best.  Actually,
don't bother taking the macro shots - just collect the rings, adapters,
bellows and extension tubes  :-)
