The problem I'm having with Flickr is that it takes a long time to upload photos, and when I go there to view, it takes a long time to load other folk's photos. I assume that's in some part due to the fact that I'm using somewhat older computer (like maybe 3 or 4 years old?). I don't know crap about 'puters, but it seems that Flickr doesn't just send stuff to my computer, there's some sort of a two way dialogue (I know, I know, "dialogue" means "two way", I was being redundant) going on that slows stuff down. I know that Flickr uses some sort of a Flash programme thingie; maybe that's part of the problem, but after a while, if I'm trying to do stuff like move my photo around after it's been uploaded, my computer slows waaaaaaaay down, and I'm just wasting way too much time. G-mail seems to require a similar dialogue (it's constantly updating and reloading into my computer, so if I'm on both G-mail and Flickr, forget it. I've got to close g-mail completely, or I simply can't get anything done. Then, there's the image size problem. Flickr presents them fairly small, and although there's an icon to the left of the image to resize it, it means going to a second page to see the size options, choosing one of those, then getting to the re-sized photo. That's asking a lot of viewers, who should be able to get to the right sized image from the outset. Photo.net does that right away, and I think that's much more polite behaviour on my part towards viewers of my photos. So, for all those reasons, Flickr is out, Photo.net is back in. Someone here said that if one makes a critique request on a photo, it's not counted towards one's quota, so I've been making requests on every photo I upload there. My "average" has taken a nosedive! <vbg> Not that I care, but it's pretty funny seeing all sorts of 3's and even a couple of 2's. <g>. So, there you have it. Back to the old reliable until something better comes along. cheers, frank -- "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." -Henri Cartier-Bresson
