Peter and Ben,
Thanks for the replies.
I use this laptop hard. It is running most every day 10-12 hours. I use it
in my van for the GPS and on service calls to update Eeproms on TV's.
It likely gets more usage on the hard drive than others.
As far as being dropped, it slid off the stand a few times, but it never
landed really hard. Most of the time it seems to run fine. At home, I have
it on the arm of a love seat when I'm not using it and that seems to be the
usual time it acts up, I think because the fans are on the bottom and it
over heats, but it never used to do this.

When it is in my van, the battery some times gets low and it is to save my
data and go into stand by, but when I press the power button, it says it is
coming out of stand by, but my files weren't saved.

Yes Jeff, I know many others also holding off on Vista until SP1. And
with the big memory footprint of Vista, or rather it's 4 gb sweet spot
<groan>, I will hold off for quite some time as XP Pro is supported for
a good while still. Perhaps when you do buy a replacement you could ask
for XP as the OS, some are doing this.

I forgot to ask before, but has the laptop ever been dropped or jostled
roughly recently? Even accidentally dropping it an inch onto a hard
surface after looking underneath can be damaging to internal components,
ie. battery connectors, video, network, etc. I am always amazed how much
the little things can be huge for a laptop.
