My concern would be cost.  A CD burner is very cheap nowdays
and the media are extremely inexpensive.  I would guess that
Ed's hardware cost big bucks??? and is only good for the
purpose mentioned.  A CD burner would give you more flexibility;
everyone? has a CD ROM for reading the CD's you make.
