A large portion (most!) of the linkage dependencies are due to
ImageMagick and it seems likely that ImageMagick is used to read PNG
and JPEG files. I suggest looking there first. Download a graphics
image file which does not work and then see if
display filename
works ok.

Hi Bob,
thank you for this information. I didn't expect imagemagick to be
involved here. Michal seem to have found graphics files that are
problematic for our imagemagick.
