We have a Spectra T50e for video archive at NewsChannel5 and use SGL software to manage it. I was at NAB as well, but I didn't look at any new software to drive our archive. I believe LTO is expect to have a long shelf life, assuming you have a working drive to play it on. Ours are LTO-5, which now is yesterday's news (good thing that is what we store on it), so I don't know how long we will be able to get LTO-5 capable tape readers. At the T50e's price point, I don't see that a $1000 software is very different in cost to a $4000 one - if you archive video and have a T50e, $4000 isn't that much money, after all. I'm interested in what you find.
