Is that legal? Can people who buy a distro really distribute it for free? If so, my friends and I could buy Linux boxed versions and split the cost. --------------------------------------------- Keith Vassallo http://www.keithvassallo.com Linux Registered User #290991 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mario Debono Sent: 17 November 2003 19:33 To: Malta Linux User Group - general list; Joseph Markham Subject: Re: [LINUX.ORG.MT] Mandrake 9.2 *This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(tm) Pro* Joseph My first experience with Linux was through downloading Mandrake 9.0. I can tell you that the combination of problems I faced were extreme: 1. I had an unbranded cd drive on my P2 that Mandrake simply could find proper drivers for it and I had loads of problems with that. 2. Problems arising out of what I aasume to be corrupted files as I kept getting all forms of errors when trying to install some packages. 3. The biggest one was my inexperience with Linux. It was my first time and I had no idea about anything Linux. I eventually managed to install it on my P2 bit by bit and learned alot about Linux and discovered a whole new world ! Later on I decided to purchase from the Mandrake website a boxed version of 9.1 and found that it installed perfectly on my P2 (with a Creative CD drive) in about 30 minutes, on my HP Vectra P3 with CD writer in less than 20 minutes as well as a few other machines I convinced friends to try. The boxed Standard version installs with everything you need, Video players, MP3 players, plugins for web browsers etc, all automatically. Also having original CDs is also a safeguard against possible corrupted packages. So if you are looking for an easy install I would recommend the 9.2 Discovery version. It will set you back about LM20. On the other hand I would be glad to provide you with 9.1 Standard version CDs, no problem.
