Intel's Atom is mostly a continuation of their earlier processor designs, like the i486 or the Pentium (..with new hair and makeup).
A similarly clocked P3 would be perceivably *faster* then the Atom, so realistically they just convinced you to buy a very expensive paper weight. Sorry. :-( -Bryan.
