I did it (run OpenBSD solely) and it worked nicely on the M1 MacBook Air. I had to give it back a couple of years ago, so I can not say if it still does.
You had to us Ashai Linux to get it going but that was no real problem.
(Some minor issues were a too responsive touch pad (while typing) and problems when reawakening from sleep mode .., but that was quite a while ago, so I may not even remember it correctly.)
