Congratulations :-). There are tax and pricing considerations that you may want to watch out for. I suspect you'll be able to bring your equipment into the country without having to worry about paying duty or stuff like that, but you may find that you can buy equipment at a lower cost in the US and bring it along with you than you can here in Canada... unless you're getting funded in Canada and have restrictions on what/where you can buy (buying in the US is advantageous for you, especially given that the US dollar is weak compared to the loonie at the moment).
In most provinces you'll end up with 15% tax on top of sticker price (we're still pretty backwards in that we haven't gotten around to incorporating the taxes into the price of our goods... all the better for the whingers to find something to whinge about... is tax-on-top-of-sticker still used in most US jurisdictions?). Check out prices of goods at your local computer store and compare them with Canadian pricing. Since you seem to be affiliated with a university, check out the edu prices for Apple h/w in the US and compare them with edu pricing in Canada (if you're eligibile for edu pricing in Canada... otherwise, get whatever h/w you need at edu prices ;-) (e.g. http://www.campuscomputerstore.ca/utoronto/) Eric.
