OK, I'll put my 2 cents in. Tiger has many cool features. Bu, If you are into aesthetics and interface consistency you'll find it is the worst OS X yet. They introduced yet another interface style with Mail.app and it is again inconsistent with everything else (even preferenes in Mail.app). Dashboard is EXTREMELY buggy and only moderately well designed. I mean, the standard way to get a close box available is to actually click the add button?
Think I have to dispute that a little. Sure, the new Mail.app doesn't precisely match. However, the interface design--you know, what's actually important about using an application--is vastly improved. As to aesthetics, well, I've listened to people complain about that sort of thing with every release since System 5. I personally don't like the Aqua design all that much; the new look of Mail is much more pleasing, if only to me.
As to Dashboard, yep. it's got a ways to go--but extremely buggy it is not. I would save a comment like that for something that crashed every time I've used it. I haven't had a problem yet, other than I think it's a bit slow, and the design of some widgets could use some work. But no crashes yet, or any serious problems.
Well, I haven's seen any big speed increases on an eMac and iBook 1GHz. I would wait and see actual tests with clean installs of both. Every OS seems to run a little faster right after it is installed (OK, doesn't just seem to, does).
As for the speed increase I'm seeing, you may not see as dramatic effect on your faster computers, but on my older PowerBook, the increase in response time is well beyond wishful thinking. And no, I can think of some OSes that were significantly slower than their predecessors - System 7.6 and OS X 10.1 springs to mind.
