FWIW I take my iBook to work even though I've been supplied with a ThinkPad. The ThinkPad doesn't have a built-in floppy, but came with a USB drive. Works fine on both machines, one running Windoze 2000 and the other running OS X 10.2.6. For a while I was using it to transfer files, but for the last few months I've been using a RAMdrive I picked up in a liquidation store.

Is this an OS 9/X thing (I haven't used floppy disks since I had OS 8.1 on
my Quadra... all computers since have (mercifully) been floppy free)? Or is
this the floppy drive?

I'd bet it is the floppy drive which is kafluie, as my VST USB FD
works just fine in 9.1 althought I haven't tried it in OSX. I think I've
seen something about them not working in 0SX, though.
