Hi:
I have Rogers high-speed and from time to time Mail (Mac OSX) has trouble connecting to the Rogers email service. The same sort of problem exists for PCs on the home network as well...intermittent failures to connect.
Now where almost back to square one again. Everything is configured as par
norm, her power is a little low at times, but all in all her comp room is
fully functional regarding power.
What exactly do you mean by "her power is a little low...?
I have had to have my friend pull the
power of the Rogers cable unit three times since she upgraded in order for
her to be able to let the system see here, you see she gets a error from the
browser or mail app saying "can not connect to server, can not find server"
which unplugging and replugging works, but she should not have to do this at
all, it make no since why she should have to do this when ever it can't find
the server.
Can't say for sure, but I suspect that pulling the power on the modem is not solving the problem but merely a coincident. Oh No!! I believe that I'm starting to sound like a Rogers Support tech!
Second, now apparently she is having trouble with the email every so often.
She calls the techs and they totally confuse her about what's going on, and
apparently I've found that they do not support Entourage or any other mail
app other then Mail (the one shipped with X). I know that the email
configuration is as it should be and that it works, as par their layout.
Like I said, I get the same thing, intermittent failures, and often, I have to re-enter my Password. I hate it.
Does any one have any ideas as to what might be going on? Or is it truly a
major problem with the modem that they sent her? Or in fact a problem with
then end? Which they are not saying anything about?
I don't think it's the modem. I dunno if this has anything to do with it but I suspect that their DNS servers get temperamental from time to time. I sometimes am unable to connect to any site. I manually enter a non Rogers DNS server and bang, I can connect again.
All of the above is based on my uneducated guessing as I am no expert on this stuff.
Maybe someone a little more knowledgeable could pipe up.
Cheers
