You're always free to publish alternate themes for anything you want. But for the UI project, we have certain procedures in place, and we all follow them - and there are good reasons for them that have previously been elaborated here and elsewhere. > > >Sure it's cleaner, but it doesn't shout C64 to me. I'm pretty sure only the prototype/first model had a tan case, and later editions were more like off-white. At least I remember my C-64 being more of an off-white colour. That's somewhat beside the point though. The problem is, your image just doesn't feel like an authentic C-64 - just using a tan colour doesn't give the impression "oh, this looks just like the case of a C-64". It's not that simple... The surfaces in your image lack texture, the image is just flat colour. If we really wanted to go for a C-64 look, look at the title background in the current plugin graphics. Sure they're blurry, but if you ignore that, they're very authentic because they're sampled from a photograph of a C-64. It's immediately obvious that it's a C-64, it has that distinct feeling of old plastic, you can almost smell it... > >I'm not so sure if SID really needs a whole rehaul of graphics. I just redid the title on the current version (not on .4.15). That's probably not sufficient for a title revamp but it's a starting point... > > >we should really figure out what we want to do with it before diving > in guns blazing. > > The only one who risks getting hurt by my guns blazing is my self. ;) > I chose to make things the way I did, and if it doesn't make it into > the official release, then I can always release it as a sub theme > pack. Besides, I'm doing this for my entertainment. ;) That's all fine, but it's better to do things in a productive way, since this is the devel mailing list after all... we should at least try to be productive. So, I think we need to look at this project and tackle it down properly. It's great that you have enthusiasm, and note that I'm not saying that your graphics are bad or anything. They look very neat and clean, and in another context that'd be a great UI for a plugin. But I kind of feel that the SID requires some special attention, it's kind of like restoration of fine art... I think we should definitely keep the style of the title of the old plugin, but make it nicer. The photorealistic image of a C-64 surface I think is a good enough idea to keep, I think we should look for a better bitmap font though, one that's an authentic-looking C-64 font maybe... I'll look into it. I can actually keep working on the title restoration, seeing as I've already sort of started on that project earlier. As for the actual UI part, I think here the idea of doing a UI based on the external appearance of the 64 isn't the best way to go necessarily. The old plugin has this sort of lofi-retro-feeling to it, it doesn't exactly look like what you'd see on a 64 but it has some of that feeling there. If we're going to redo the UI graphics, I think we could do it like it was actual C-64 graphics with actual C-64 fonts used for the labels and buttons... and with an authentic C-64 colour palette. I'm thinking we could collaborate on this, you could work on the UI part while I can look into redoing the title part... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Managing the Performance of Cloud-Based Applications Take advantage of what the Cloud has to offer - Avoid Common Pitfalls.
