that security is important, as is optimising (now that everything

It's not that I distrust the flags, but I just think that upstream's
knowledge of their code is better than mine. In addition, I've never
been able to detect a speedup due to custom flags without instrumenting
the program. Small speed improvements do not really improve the user
experience.
Also, introducing flags that may be HW dependent doesn't help the
consistency of the books.
