I am not really able to do this I have downloaded the mainline kernel
packages and put them in a separate folder (within download folder).
Then I do sudo dpkg -i *.deb, then I get error telling me no such file
or directory. Do I point it at the folder somehow and if so how? Can you
give me the actual terminal commands? I am sorry I am not much of an
expert, in fact I am not much of a anything much, so need step by step!

Thanks.

Title:
  can't open synaptic package manager

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When I try and open synaptic package man. I get this message.
E: The package linux-image-4.10.0-23-generic needs to be reinstalled, but I
can't find an archive for it.
E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report.

Before this the software updater is showing 1 update but does not
update it, I click on install and it says installing a few moments but
then returns to showing one update to be done?
