To be fair, it is possible to work around this issue in properties files as
well by using Unicode escapes. I appreciate it's not a great solution but it
will work and is fully supported by the Java spec and then there won't be an
issue regardless of specified encoding.
Wrt Herve's suggestion I was thinking of a configuration on plugin level not on
pom level. That's how I read his pom snippet.
