[~tomoko] thanks for working on this. I think your renaming PR would stand
regardless of whether we end up removing the {{VectorValues.SearchStrategy}}
and instead providing a configurable (per field) codec. I confess I haven't
carefully reviewed it yet (it's big!), but I plan to, and I think the naming
discussions we've had here are still valid, so I'll reopen and plan to look at
this soon.
