When I created the Jira my first idea was also to get rid of this dependency,
and when I removed the same line you mentioned in the link, the building failed
with 871 errors - that's why I tried fixing in another way.
Most of these errors are {{error: cannot find symbol ...}} like this:
{noformat}
lucene-solr/solr/core/src/java/org/apache/solr/request/SolrRequestInfo.java:50:
error: cannot find symbol
public HttpServletRequest httpRequest;
^
symbol: class HttpServletRequest
location: class SolrRequestInfo
{noformat}
And {{error: package (...) does not exist}} like this one:

lucene-solr/solr/core/src/java/org/apache/solr/request/SolrRequestInfo.java:19:
error: package javax.servlet.http does not exist
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;

Can you please check this as well, if you encounter the same problem when
removing the dependency?
