Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-14066:
------------------------------------

I'm a bit sceptical of leaving traces of DIH in solr-core, used by a 3rd party
package. What happens when Rohit needs to modify the UI to support a new
feature?

I think at least the deprecation warning should say that we encourage people to
test out the replacement and that DIH will likely stay until 9.x and not go
away completely yet.

If Rohit plans to improve and continue developing DIH there would be incentives
for users to actually use the package instead of the contrib...

> DataImportHandler has outlived its utility. DIH doesn't need to remain inside
> Solr anymore. Plan is to deprecate DIH in 8.5, remove from 9.0. Also, work on
> handing it off to volunteers in the community (so far, [~rohitcse] has
> volunteered to maintain it).
> Update: A community supported version of DIH would be
> https://github.com/rohitbemax/dataimporthandler.
