David Smiley resolved SOLR-14325.
---------------------------------
    Resolution: Won't Fix

[~GoodmanR] in essence, instead of asking core status for indexInfo which runs
the risk of stalling in certain cases, instead ask Solr for metrics: See
http://localhost:8983/solr/admin/metrics?wt=xml&prefix=SEARCH&group=core and
http://localhost:8983/solr/admin/metrics?wt=xml&prefix=INDEX&group=core to see
what's available. It seems there are some gaps like the number of segments
:-/. I imagine that if you ask for metrics in the middle of replication, then
there will be no searcher and you simply won't have the SEARCHER level detail
or INDEX either for that matter.

> Core status could be improved to not require an IndexSearcher

> When the core status is told to request "indexInfo", it currently grabs the
> SolrIndexSearcher but only to grab the Directory.  SolrCore.getIndexSize also
> only requires the Directory.  By insisting on a SolrIndexSearcher, we
> potentially block for awhile if the core is in recovery since there is no
> SolrIndexSearcher.

> It'd be nice to have a solution that conditionally used the Directory of the
> SolrIndexSearcher only if it's present so that we don't waste time creating
> one either.
