[~jaceq] I wasn't able to get this into 8.4, had I not hit a couple of issues 
along the way it would have been easier.

That said, the patch was applied to 8.4 originally and should "just work". Or 
just pull a current branch_8x and compile it. Let me know if you get a chance, 
and feel free to close this Jira if you're satisfied that this fixes the 
problem. I suppose another option would be to pull the 8.4 code and apply the 
patch to SOLR-14026....
