[~krisden] If you do mess with changing system properties, there's a neat trick 
I stumbled on once upon a time:

See SystemPropertiesRestoreRule, an example is in DocValuesNotIndexedTest.

 

In fact I have a Jira to move that up higher in the class hierarchy: 
SOLR-13308. If you wind up putting it in the base class maybe we can close that 
one too.
