`PendingUpdate.updateEvent` only usage is in SnapshotProducer currently so
could change the interface directly to `updateEvent(Snapshot
committedSnapshot)`, but did not want to make a backwards incompatible API
change
The whole update event/listener functionality seems untouched for years.
