Thanks B. OK, baby steps please. I am Unix knowledgful.
Old Pop3 and somewhat sendmail savvy but I've been spending
way too much time recently with (gulp) Exchange.

Our MTA is sendmail on Solaris 8.

So basically I would copy the /var/imap/spool/user/userx to
/var/imap/spool/user/userx.old
and then remove userx via cyradm, right? What is the syntax? Is it:

cyradm -u cyrus mailservername ?

deletemailbox userx

Don't I need to specify imap or something on the cyradm command?

The man page for cyradm is lacking a few examples which would
help a newbie such as myself.

Depending on what MTA you are using, you can just remove the user. Exim
will lookup the user to see if they exist, before attempting to deliver
the email. Therefore, if you change the name/remove the user, then any
mail will bounce.

As long as you don't touch the actual directory that the user owned, you
won't lose the email. You can cp that directory, and delete the user
using cyradmin.....

Hope this helps,
B
