What would be *really* helpful is if the various revisions of the
drafts and the working group e-mail archives were together, so that
I could answer questions with "That doesn't work, it was tried in
draft-ietf-foobar-07.txt, tossed in -08.txt, see <here> for the
discussion why..."

What would it take to make it doable?
