How would automating work? Another question, how many people currently review and approve the additions and removals? It might not be an issue that the process is wrong, but that we need more/different people working on it to make sure the reviews are covered in a more timely fashion.
Looking at that bug there doesn't seem to be a system at all, ie the bug isn't being marked as needed approval. Reps use flags and whiteboard status to give review and approval to our requests so that it's much easier to find the bugs that need attention. Maybe this team would benefit from a similar system?
