One more consideration from the ASF side: the existing `datafusion_iceberg`
versions (0.1.0–0.10.0) weren't voted on by an Apache project PMC. If we start
publishing from this repo to that crate, those older versions would sit next to
our releases and look like Apache releases even though they aren't. That
muddies [[ASF release
policy](https://www.apache.org/legal/release-policy.html)](https://www.apache.org/legal/release-policy.html).
`iceberg-datafusion` doesn't have this problem, since all of its versions are
Apache Iceberg releases.
   So I'm still +1 on Option 1 😄

On ownership: crates can be owned by a PMC-managed GitHub team. I just
created
[apache/iceberg-public](https://github.com/orgs/apache/teams/iceberg-public)
via [gitbox](https://gitbox.apache.org/), and a DataFusion PMC member can
create `datafusion-public` the same way.
