Thanks for the suggestion.
I have tried using the image pyramid extention before. I always have problems
exporting the geotiff out of my (ESRI) software. Because the extent of the area
is pretty large (5000km²) I have to use a dpi of around 10,000 to achieve
detail
suitable for a zoom level of 1:1,000.
Maybe there is better software or methods to achieve this.
Does the image mosaic plug-in get rendered through gwc?
