I think there is plenty of room to be lenient on release policy because we require -incubating in names and our messaging in the DISCLAIMER is there in the filename. Apache Podling-Name is an effort undergoing incubation at The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the name of Apache TLP sponsor. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF. One could argue that Incubator releases are NOT official ASF releases and somewhere along the way we blurred that boundary. Perhaps the IPMC release vote round should be more about whether this Release satisfies passing a Graduation requirement? I agree with Julian that Incubation is miserable. Have you asked your LLM to compare graduation timelines? BTW - archives.apache.org has find output stored that will provide a full history of releases. It would interesting to compare historical release cadence with time in incubation. Some of the early podlings graduated in less than 6 months.
