this is an easy transition: either read flag from source (that will move to
Git in a future step) or from output (that will stay in svn)
using flags in output in svn is just more stable, then easier for now as it
does not require the target Git branch yet
in the future, if you prefer to use the Git source branch, we can (and we
can also avoid copying the flags from source to output, no problem)
this is really just a pragmatic step to do small changes without risking
breaking things
