Hi Eric and all, There are many things for which I have no personal opinion.
But, here are some exceptions... > On Jun 7, 2021, at 10:45 PM, Eric Auer <[email protected]> wrote: > [..] > chose? * both XFDISK and FDISK If there is to be only one... Wether or not XFDISK is better, it should be FDISK. If someone is familiar with DOS and wants to partition their drive, the first and possibly only thing they will think to look for is FDISK. > chose? * both AMBHELP and HTMLHELP > > chose? * NOT both DOSLFN and LFNDOS (which of them was better?) I don’t “know” which is better. But, if I recall correctly, I was told (on-list somewhere) by I forget who that DOSLFN was more stable. For that reason, there is a REM’d line in the installed autoexec to load that driver. > check? * Maybe not even both FREEDOOM and BOOM at the same time > > You made no comments yet about: > > * all of HIMEM > * XMGR and FDXMS286 (maybe not FDXXMS and not FDXMS?) > * both UDVD2 and ELTORITO > * both JEMMEX and JEMM386 > * both DOSFSCK and CHKDSK > * both UHDD and CDRCACHE > * both UHDD and LBACACHE > * both MKEYB and KEYB > * both SHSUCDX and SHSUCDHD > > * NOT GCDROM (an old predecessor-sibling of UDVD2) As we’ve discussed before, I think you and I disagree here. :-) I don’t know if there are any situations when GCDROM will work when UDVD2 does not. I have not examined the code of either. Nor, have I done any testing regarding this. It is possible that GCDROM may make a better starting point for someone to fork the driver and add support for alternate drives. Perhaps both shouldn’t be installed. But, I think that GCDROM should at least be included on the BonusCD. :-) Jerome _______________________________________________ Freedos-devel mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-devel
