The biggest hurdle for a start is that both the docs and the comments in
the source code are in Japanese...

That might all depend on what else is going on in one's life... 😉
I would much rather spend what ever time I have on the source code
itself, rather than spend endless hours trying to translate comments in
order to better understand the source code as is in the first place...
