Hi!I disagree here. DOC stands for documentation, regardless what it might remind people (I've always considered it a very bad idea that Microsoft chose DOC for the Microsoft Word native files, precisely because there are many plain text files with extension DOC already too). But we shouldn't try to cope with that pitfall (or maybe obscure decission) anyway.

Yes, though, "DOC" is not liked for me, because reminds MS Word. This directory, probably, may be called MAN (from "manual").
I don't think MAN is suitable, because there may be documentation that is not a manual or a manual page.
BTW, Jim, what you say about next hierarchy:so you are not specifically puting it into BIN (as a side note, this is unix-ish notation that I never liked much, because in my understanding this folder is to be used in Unix/Linux for executables in machine-binary language, whereas there might be BINary DATA files, that are binary but not executable, but that are not normally put there, or am I wrong?).

I have never known what could be better. I think of utilities that maybe (badly) used to find the DOS programs into \DOS\ and not \DOS\BIN, but one could argue that those programs wouldn't be happy anyway if \DOS is called \FDOS...
So I don't know.
As we are discussing the structure inside "DOS", I think this is irrelevant. At least in the older versions of the installer, you could after all choose the directory name that you wish to install FreeDOS.EA> directory should be called. I think c:\fdos\ is a good default. Agreed.
Or perhaps this is about what Install should give by default?
