I include the untrimmed post for reference, since it's been a while, and
this seems to be a hot topic. Sorry, digesters...

OK - Mike - I was once a newbie. I listened to the dead and Phish and a few
other bands that crop up here from time to time, but had never traded for a
live show. To this day, in fact, I haven't participated in a b&p. The
generosity of the members here has allowed me to LITERALLY fall behind in
the maintenance of my own server, collection, and list - to the point where
I had to STOP trading to try and get it together for a while. While lots of
people here may not read their posts outloud to hear how they may sound, and
some openly flame, MOST - including siteops and moderators - are generous
and kind.

One complaint I have is that we are not protective ENOUGH of this list. I
was a newbie, but i never asked for a Stevie Ray Vaughn show because I read
the FAQ. It's not hard to understand, if you are truly interested in
participating on this list, that certain things simply jeapordize the
existence of this great thing we have going.

New members get help here frequently. I still have the first post i sent to
this list, and the responses i got (one even from PJP) - and it has been
steady trading since. i have a few untradable shows listed, but i do not
trade them and do not advertise them (they exist in my list for archive
organizational purposes only).

When people become members of a group, there is an element of freedom that
must be relinquished. Call it "Natural Law," without the rules, we would
all kill each other off. It is why we empower members and moderators to
control the group - so that the group can survive. Read: Locke, Rousseau,
Hobbes, Dahl...

I totally agree that new members can contribute things this list needs - and
that the list needs new contributions from those members. i started with
nothing, but have managed to hook a few up here and there with some tunes
they have enjoyed. We all have - and we do it because music is the coolest
thing ever, and we want people to find out about this thing that not enough
people seem to understand. Why not protect this list from Trolls or
dangerous (albeit innocent) transgressions?

People like you may have various sources for your music. i really only have
etree. If it gets junked because RIAA decides to get a burr up its butt
about one too many Pink Floyd ISOs, the good guys get the shaft. That's not
right. (In case you're just scanning, Pink Floyd is NOT traderfriendly)

it seems that most people on the list are responding to innappropriate ISOs
or trade offers, from anyone, not just new members, personally, offlist, and
respectfully. If we all continue to do this, then people shouldn't get
scared off - they just might offer back to the list some stuff you'd like to
have in your house.

Anyway - it worked on me...
Peace, love, respect, for everybody
8-Damien

WOB - check db.etree.org/MaskedMarvel (anyone ever include their list for
trades anymore?) if you read this far, I'll give out one login for one
show - if you're a digester (proof), one login there - and one if your last
name is a first name. Peace.
