I seem to remember that Li-Ion loses 20-25% each year of its capacity whether
used or not. Of course if it exceeds a certain number of charge/recharge
cycles then things deteriorate fast because cells lose their ability to hold
charge. So with average usage it should last 4-5 years and that has been my
experience with a number of laptops over the years. If you say that now they
last only 2-3 years something must be seriously wrong with them. Either they
spent a long time on the shelf before sold, or they are using substandard
materials.

Thanks for the heads up. I hope when I buy a replacement they will provide a
battery comparable to what I have now.

Back to the topic of the battery gadget, I noticed that although I set it to
"Hibernate" when the charge drops below 3%, after a reboot it shows "Suspend
when below". Why does this happen? Is 3% too low to leave enough energy for
hibernating?
