Sorry, launch_dbus was a typo, it was launch-dbus in the file. And I think you're right about dbus starting when X starts no matter what the user says.
I'd rather not get a bunch more kde stuff, but I do have some already because of needing a bunch of qt and phonon stuff. I'm going to try the e display manager entrance and see if that might work first.
